OUTWARD BOUND 50th ANNIVERSARY
This year is the 50th Anniversary of Outward Bound.
In recognition of the fact that Rotary was instrumental in helping establish Outward Bound in New Zealand and to celebrate the on-going relationship that Rotary Clubs have with Outward Bound, next year they will run nine courses or ‘watches’.
Each watch will comprise 14 students aged from 18 – 26 sponsored by Rotary clubs. The courses will be held between Sunday 2nd September & Sunday 22nd September 2012.
About Outward Bound
Outward Bound is New Zealand's leading organisation in the business of showing people their full potential through outdoor challenge and adventure.
Established in 1962, Outward Bound still operates from its original location, Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds.
Anakiwa (near Picton) is regarded as the most perfectly situated Outward Bound school in the world. The natural timbered buildings merge gracefully into the curve of the bay and are backed by native bush. A long jetty stretches to where the school’s small fleet of cutters are at anchor. The ‘classrooms’ of the school are the native bush, mountains, rivers and seaways of Marlborough.
The Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand is a member of Outward Bound International which has 42 member countries. Outward Bound International was founded by educator Kurt Hahn in Wales in 1941. Hahn said: “We are all better than we know. If only we can come to discover this, we may never again settle for anything less.”
